Am I eligible to claim car mileage allowance?

If you are employed and use your car for business purposes, then you are entitled to claim back mileage. This covers the cost of fuel for your vehicle and, you can claim car mileage tax relief from the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for this current tax year and for the 3 years before it.

How much could I claim?

You could claim back potentially thousands of pounds from the HMRC depending upon your mileage. Most employers typically contribute 20p per mile, but you are actually entitled to 45p per mile for this current tax year and 40p for the previous 3 tax years, all of which U-Tax will reclaim for you. All our advice is free, if your claim is unsuccessful we won’t charge you. We will only retain a fee of £35 or 15% (whichever is greater) from any successful refund.

Can I claim a car use tax rebate?

If you are employed and use your own car for the purposes of work you can claim a car mileage allowance. You can claim on the costs of car tax, insurance, repairs and servicing your vehicle. If your vehicle is used for both private and business activities you can only claim the proportion of these rebates which relates to your business. This is usually based on the ratio of your business to your total mileage.

How much could I claim?

How much you can claim will depend on whether you use your vehicle solely or partly for business purposes. If you use your vehicle solely for business purposes you should be able to claim back all your running costs. If your car or other vehicle is used partly for business purposes we will need to work out the ratio mileage before we can claim your car use rebate. This means you will need to keep a note of business mileage for a representative period as well as all the bills incurred. This will allow us to claim everything you are owed.
